The One In Which It Was Really Cold!

Good morning cupcakes! well winter has well and truly come to my little corner of Sussex! we have had actual snow – which is a big deal for the south of England, look at my silly poodle pretending to be Scott of the Antarctic…..

Fortunately snow doesn’t stop work as I only have to commute to my armchair 🙂 I painted this commission ……….

It really was such a great exercise as I haven’t done monochrome for ages, I had to buy a lot more shades of black and grey (yes there are different ones!) and found out that Chinese Ink is a lovely warm black which makes for great depth.

I crocheted a herd of these bunnies with their creme egg backpacks…..

These two thought it was a bit too cold to hop to their new homes!

I have lots to make for this great event………

But I am not helping myself by being distracted by things like this……..

This past fashion week Gucci sent their models down the runway with these dragons, it really got me thinking about some pet dragons I could make – maybe pastel, maybe linked to your birthstone? I am going to try and resist the temptation to make some until after my fair.

I had made this Easter Bunny girl for my fair…..

But one of my amazing customers snapped it up! along with this mermaid…..

I have found the only way to keep myself organised with my work schedule is to plan and plan again! and the only way you can keep me interested in planning is if I have amazing stationery! so in the picture you can see my unicorn latte bookmark from my mate Shell at, beautiful stickers from What The Fox Designs (you can find her on and peeking out is my lovely planner from

So enough of this chit chat kittens, you need to go to bed or work or school or whatever awesomeness you are doing and  I had best crack on and make some stuff!

Morning! As we approach the second birthday of this blog, I was thinking about when I started taking photos to put on here. It had been my intention to take “proper photos” on a “proper camera”, but that never happened. The majority of my photos are taken on my iPad mini or on my iPhone. The process doesn’t stop there though, almost without exception they will be run through a photo editing app called Repix, turning up the light, intensifying the colour.

Curiosity got the better of me at this point, what would my photos look like stripped bare of any editing and with the most basic of cameras?

First I grabbed this………

My daughters Instax, like the old Polaroid it produces the picture in seconds and is super simple to use…….or was it…..

Here’s number 1……

My blue berry bush, really over exposed but strangely pretty.

And then………..

My tiny Buddha in the garden looking as massive as an Easter Island statue and just as imposing.

Mad Mr Milo the poodle looking like a faceless monster.

How about a product picture………..

This I liked, whilst it didn’t capture the level of detail I like, it’s moody, soft focus looks a bit fashion magazine to me.

And finally….

A really odd picture of a rose!

I really enjoyed this lack of perfection and I think it introduces a mood to the pictures that wasn’t there before, I won’t be changing my usual methods for the majority of the time, I will be using this camera when it suits the subject matter.

What camera do you use? I’d love to see some pictures! Share with me on Instagram and Facebook

Getting There In A Roundabout Way!

Good Morning Darceys Angels! there is a saying that man makes plans and God laughs, I had a plan to put a video of me painting on here, but it turned out a bit ….meh….and then I got involved with something that diverted my attention for a bit (more of that later) and…anyhoo this is how the week went.

As you know I’ve been designing  Christmas cards, first I did our CEO Darcey…..

And then to avoid a row our VP Milo had to have one……..

This ones called Surprise!

Finally, as we are an all inclusive company I thought we had best do a cat design, however our own cat Jasper is a 17 and half bag of bones bless him, so I searched for a stock photo (that means copyright free) and chose this one…….

as you can see I was so lazy I just screen shot it! I wanted to add some Christmas to it so I replaced her paw with a bauble. Now I expect proper artists have a method to where they paint first but you know thats not my style! look what I did first………..

Yep! I did the bauble first, what can I tell you I love a bit of sparkle!

After some concentration it ended up like this………..

I put more of a smile on her and a bit of tinsel around her ear. This ones called Dreaming Of Christmas.

It was at this point that I got distracted in the most useful way, through the magic of Facebook I was made aware of a lovely local boy called Sumner Malik, Sumner is suffering from a brain tumour called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. This is a diagnosis that brings a life expectancy usually counted in months rather than years. Sumner’s family and friends are doing everything they can to raise some money for some treatment that will prolong his life.

Sumner’s story hit me straight in the heart, I have given a portrait voucher to the auction of promises that is being held, and after a bit of a think I have decided to donate 20% of the sales of these Christmas cards to Sumner’s appeal. As soon as they are printed I will let you know and hopefully Darcey’s Angels can show Sumner some love.

In the meantime if you feel generous Sumner has a page on

Have a super week

Shiney, Happy Photos!

Uggghhh! No sooner had flow went! Shoulder arthritis, multiple sprains and a migraine packed it’s bags for it. I have managed to draw out a new type of portrait…….

Eventually it will be Darcey with a floral crown, I also have fairy puppies floating round my head. However one pencil drawing does not a blog post make, so I was thinking about all the pictures I take and delete, and what makes me keep some of them for so long, here is my top 10 that didn’t get deleted.

Number 1…..

The combined loveliness of my Darcey and my husband Neil.

Number 2……

Me at the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Victoria and Albert museum, so good I saw it twice and cried twice at the loss of a genius.

Number 3….

The picture that made me buy a hysterical, self opinionated and completely precious toy poodle called Milo.

Number 4…

My first piece of business post, I was disproportionately excited.

Number 5…..

Your colours for AW 2016, for those old enough to remember do they remind you of the seventies?

Number 6…..

Because however hard I try, I just can’t seem to grow up!

Number 7…….

I took this picture to illustrate this years colour of the year but I’ve kept it because it is the most perfect colour.

Number 8…..

To me these are actual Angels, these are people that with the help of a local theatre group screened the families of the victims of the Orlando shooting from the evil that is the Westboro baptist church, who picket the funerals of LGBT people ( amongst others) this is humanity at it absolute best.

Number 9……..

Bluebell s- I admit I am obsessed but they sum up British woodland in a picture.

Number 10……

I usually ignore the endless motivational memes that pop up on Facebook but I love this one and I try to be supernova like as often as possible.

So have you got a photo on your phone or tablet that you will never delete? I’d love to see it!

A Day In The Life Of ? Me!

This blog is frequently read in France and therefore I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to everyone touched by the events of last night xX

I think I have the best job in the world, painting and making pretty things and it would be reasonable to think that I float around all day in a painting smock, but in reality I have to be quite organised so here is my day!

First task of the day is walk the dogs, this is a physical struggle for me but I rely on it to keep my anxiety at bay, and when you have these woods on your doorstep it’s easy to get moving…..

Poor Milo has had his “snip” and has to stay home….

Then it’s time for breakfast, up until now this has not been healthy, but I am trying my best to eat better in an effort to reduce my pain levels. So this morning I had a banana and almond butter shake and some chocolate tea…..

Its time to do some work! While the dogs sleep I start some painting, i gather all my equipment, paints and iPad………

image image

I can only work for about an hour before stiffness sets in but that’s enough time to get this far……..

After a rest it’s housework, and then lunch……

It hasnt been this healthy for ages, but this Mexican bowl of quinoa, guacamole, cashew cream and tomatoes it was yum!

Its then time for my second work session and the afternoon is for craft and stock for craft fairs, this afternoon was a glittering session for my Fimo Christmas decorations……

When the dogs wake up its back to house work, cooking and playing with these two….

Do you love how proud Milo (on the right) looks?

So how does your day go?

This Week I Have Mainly Been………

Good morning dear reader, I am afraid that this week has been a bit of a washout for me, I have pleurisy! This is making the simple act of breathing demanding enough. So this weeks post is a bit sucky.. It has crap photos taken on my lap and a picture of antibiotics……..

Apart from taking those bad boys I have been painting the lovely Isis……

I have been slowly making festive tattoo hearts………

I have made a start on this lovely blanket that my mum and dad got me for my birthday……

image image

it cam from the marvellously named, they have all manner of vaguely Cath Kinston inspired goodies.

And when the wool arrives I’m going to make a few of these Liebkuchen from Mollie Makes, Liebkuchen are spiced biscuits from Germany and as my husband is half German I love to make things that refer to his heritage.

Finally, when the coughing has got too much, I have just gazed upon the loveliness that is the Laduree key ring that Neil got me for my birthday……..

Can you see it has a poodle on it? Milo is very impressed! there are all sorts of prettiness at

Lets all keep everything crossed and by next week I should be better and more blog capable!

As my brother once said to me in a slightly inebriated email, I fear, dear reader you find me quite undone! Or to put it more honestly I haven’t prepared a blog post! Have I got any excuses? Well, I’ve been working…….

And I have been stitching, these bathing Belles are nearing completion ready for the vintage fair, ….

Ive stitched a few bears…….

I’ve done a lot of running round after this fella…..imageAnd I went to a speeding diversionary course, it really was useful and focused the mind on what the truly awful consequences of going too fast are, so expect better driving from me.

Finally, the evil step sisters that are arthritis and fibromyalgia have had me in a strangle hold, but you know what? I have made and painted and played and learnt, so they haven’t won!

Normal service will be resumed next week, thanks for sticking with me!
