A Purple Poodle, A gingerbread Man and a Unicorn Oh My!

Good morning to you and welcome to September! I have spent most of August making Christmas things and purple poodles!

Before we get to the goodies, I wondered if you would like to know a bit more about me? lets start with my qualifications for this business…

None! I have a C grade o level (ask your mum) in art and a few others none of which have anything to do with what I do now!

My business was a reaction to illness making me unable to work in my usual trade – working for the government -and rediscovering art after receiving therapy for what used to be called a nervous breakdown. My darling mum, retaught me to knit and crochet, bought me books and yarn and encouraged me to make.

While we are on the subject of family, I met my husband at work, he wooed me by making fishcakes and bringing them into work with rolls and tartare sauce- it was a no brainer! I moved into his flat that looked out onto the Thames (another no brainer) and very soon we had our daughter – the prettiest, smartest, funniest girl in the world.

We moved out of London when I quit work and now we live in Sussex – its a lovely place for 360 days of the year, the other 5 I have to get back into London, breathe the pollution, shop and eat in places I don’t usually, and return to the ‘burbs refreshed!

Oh and we got these two….

On the right you have Darcey, the girl with only 2 speeds – on or off, when I started this business I could only work while she was asleep- this was another no brainer moment, my business had to be called While Darcey Sleeps! on the left her slightly odd “brother from another mother’ Milo, he is a poodle ….and an evil genius!

Which as they say in the movies brings us to here! I have been working hard on marketing this year and for once started my Christmas makes in August, which is when you have to do it apparently! So, here are some of what you can expect from me, first up Noelle the Christmas fairy…..

GlitterPhoto_Aug312018_135742-1

This girl can be any colour you want , I just made a traditional one to get us all in the festive spirit! she features a handmade candy cane charm made by me!

What would a Christmas be without a unicorn make from me? heres something a little different, a tree bauble…..

Again you can have this in any colour you like, more festive, more sparkly just let me know!

A Christmas classic is the next make…..

smaller than my usual makes, they are designed to hang on the tree, not scented but could be? and if you fancy a larger one just shout!

Finally not Christmas related but an ideal gift, my first Patisserie Poodle!

This is Violetta the blossom macaron poodle, she is inspired by  these kinds of macarons….

Going With The Flow!

Morning kitty cats! do you know what flow is? flow is where whatever you are doing becomes effortless, where you sail through you day achieving greatness left, right and centre. I have definitely had a couple of days of flow this week, one particular painting was giving me grief so I turned my attention to other things, heres what happened….

I designed, drew a pattern and cut out a little felt girl, no prizes for guessing what flower she is based on!

I cut out these espadrilles, from this gorgeous fabric…

The flow got a bit carried away at this point and cut out without leaving a seam allowance! back to the cutting board.

Then I cut out a purse from this fabric…..

You know I’m addicted to the macaron theme! its also practice for the bag line I want to design, its a fact that my design skills are way above my actual making skills so I need to get making.

I crocheted like a demon, to finish my Dolce inspired backpack …….

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

And promptly ran out of yarn! and this Wool and the Gang recycled denim is so popular (and rightly so) its a 3-4 week wait before its back in stock, aaarrgghh!

I am hoping that the flow is strong next week and I can finish some of these and get back to painting.

I also managed  to write my first post for http://www.MyTrendingStories.com, I will be aiming to post for them on a wednesday (which will be a repeat of what appears here) and also on Sunday which will be new content that won’t appear here, so if you need more of me you need to pop over to them and look in the lifestyle section!

May the flow be with you!

Stop Press: Karen And Bunting Announce Surprise Reunion!

I like bunting, I really do but I think like some Hollywood stars it has suffered from over exposure. I like bunting when it is quirky or made of fabulous material where the pattern takes pride of place.

I was having a browse through this book…

image

and found this beautiful embellished bunting

image

Eline Pellinkhof has a very muted palette, but I used her idea for some bunting for my kitchen. Do you want to make some? Follow me!

First some fabric, maybe some odd size pieces that you can’t find a use for, and a bunting template, give it a Google and loads will appear! The one I used has a handy fold over top. You will also need some ribbon to  string it all together. Of course, as its going in the kitchen it had to have some french patisserie themed fabric.

image

I used some lace paper, mine is from the absolutely brilliant http://www.glitterpot.co.uk, if you scrapbook, make cards or any paper based craft, you must check them out.

image

I also had some crochet flowers destined for another project, here’s Darcey helping me make them…

image

After cutting your bunting shapes work out what your order will be..

image

Then get gluing! I could have sewn a hem around the triangles but I was feeling lazy, and managed to glue it all together in 15 minutes! Perfect for last minute bunting emergencies, and here it is!

image

Get involved in the debate that is more important than the election, are you a bunting fan or not?

Kisses

P.S great excitement at WDS HQ, we are off to see the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the V and A at the weekend! If I can get some photos it will be on next Wednesdays post xxxx

If It’s Macarong, I don’t want to be right!

I am OBSESSED by macarons! Obviously they are an absolute joy to eat, crisp outer shells, slight chewiness and luscious cream centres, but they are so much more to me, the cute chubbiness of their shape and the myriad of pastel colours.  Pantone have predicted pastels colours again for fashion this year ( more of that next week) so let’s embrace the pale hued wonders that are macarons!

My obsession started with my kitchen, and in particular these worktop protectors.

image

This lead to my entire kitchen taking on a full on patisserie theme, here is the top cupboards, the base ones are violet.

image

So that led to a whole bunch of macaron craftiness, these little macarons are a free pattern from http://www.craft-seller.com

image

These feltie ones are from Mollie Makes

image

This little keyring I made myself, inspired by the gorgeous ones that they sell at Laduree, the best macaron shop in my humble opinion! I might do a tutorial for this, if you want!

image

Finally, and before we suffer a sugar overdose, here is Nina Ricci’s perfume La Tentation de Nina which smells of …..a macaron shop! Laduree again to be precise.

So there we are my sweeties, now tell me what consumes you, what your passion is.

kisses
