Love Is?

Morning petals! I was just packing away my Valentines card and it set me to thinking how lucky I was to have such a great gift from my husband. The gift wasn’t particularly expensive but it was chosen with careful thought and a whole treasure hunt set up to find it……………

I applied a magical filter to these photos because it felt so magical to me! As an Alice in Wonderland nut it couldn’t have been more perfect. The gift?……..

A bottle of love potion tea from the tea wizards at Bluebird tea in Brighton, this black tea tastes like a dark chocolate rose cream. Next to it a jar of Valentines fudge from Brighton too, full of strawberry it was delicious!

What did I do for this lovely man? Hmmm… I really thought I had nailed Valentines with this comic themed card…..

Pretty cool right? The gift was not so inspired, a comic that he had chosen himself. This is where we get to the point of this weeks post, what does love look like the other 364 days of the year? What do we do for each other that still says I love you and I care? That lovely husband bought these home on Saturday when I was being tortured by arthritis……….

And this morning before 8, I made sushi and packed this bento box…..

Because when it come to love the devil really is in the details, its not found in the grand gestures or the expensive gifts, it is the small considerations often when you least feel like it, that show you care.

I expect you have heard this at weddings “love is patient, love is kind etc,etc ” well actually a lot of the time love is shouty, love is moody and other things unrepeatable here. It is at those moments where we need to dig deep and demonstrate our love.

So in the words of a lot of chat show hosts – be kind to one another, and next week I am hoping to have a great DIY for you.

It’s Not Easy Being A Robot!

Hola! I thought I would give this mornings greeting an Olympic feel! Do you remember I was off to a comic con a couple of weeks ago? Well it didn’t quite go according to plan.. I now know that I was sickening for this bout of bronchitis and didn’t feel up to it so I sent darling daughter with her dad, they had a whale of a time and here is what they saw……

The London Film and Comic Con was held in Olympia, our roving reporters went on opening day which you can see was fairly quiet.

As they entered they found my new car……

Isn’t it beautiful? And that number plate means it’s road legal- just right for the super market!

One of the exhibits I really wanted to see was this….

The actual Harley Quinn costume from the movie Suicide Squad.

Husband then made himself part of the action….

And once he started he couldn’t stop….

It was at this point that he was genuinely mistaken for George Lucas the director! I can kind of see it, if I squint!

A big part of Comic Cons is cosplay (or dressing up to you and me), and this was taken to the next level with a cosplay dating game, hosted by Batman of course………

There was a Harley Quinn of course……..

And this chap………

He made an attempt on the stairs to the stage …and fell backwards! He was saved by some mere mortals and manhandled to the stage.

Finally, another bat mobile…..

This one not quite as shiney as the other and more appropriate for off roading I think?

And now…drum roll please….I have a giveaway! In my very first post on this blog I shared with you my experience of what used to be called a nervous breakdown, in that post I told you about my bag that says ” I’ve lost the key to my imagination and can’t start my unicorn” it really summed up how I felt at the time.

Well, now that I have had my unicorn back for a while I thought you could name her for me!

img_4192

to help you out as you can see from the picture she is sassy, wears a little too much make up and loves everybody – sound like anyone you know? so to win this embroidery comment with your choice of unicorn name here on the blog or on our Facebook or Instagram pages, closing date is 28.8.16.

Good luck and have a magical week!

My Little Piece Of Heaven!

Morning  (cough) dear (cough) reader (cough)! I have the worst chest infection in the world….ever, if you have had a bad chest infection this is it’s daddy! I was going to do a post on the comic con last week but thats going to have to wait as I haven’t edited the pics!

Anyhow shall we press on?  I am sure by now that you have realised I LURVE what I do! In fact I love it so much that it still doesn’t feel quite real, so in an effort to be more grown up and grounded in my profession I’ve got a workspace! Who wants to see? Of course you do, but that would be one heck of a short post so here’s your tour……

I have a lot of Harley Quinn and super hero stuff, I’m gradually been brought to the dark side by my husband.

And there’s ……

Lots of Alice stuff, the whole room will be all Alice eventually, this card is a promo for a musical and I like the slightly sinister feel of this rabbit, and will be using this for inspiration.

To try and ground me and help me focus ……..

The Rose Quartz and amethyst is meant to clear my energies, I don’t know if it works but they are so pretty.

For when I feel scared or lacking confidence…….

This quote from the Divergent books and film makes me feel kick ass!

There is combined cakes and Batgirl……..

Those felt macarons enable me to use the beautiful dish my mother in law gave me.

There is this inherited from my darling daughter………

I think I might start taking a few instant pictures when I’m out and about hunting for inspiration.

Finally, there are these………

Because this is my business and here are the cards to prove it!

And Finally!

There it is in all its glory, including a mannequin for when I can’t remember which way the elbow bends! And a twiggy tree full of bluebirds, my folder of to do lists. When I go to back to work on Monday this little slice of heaven will be my blogging space ( I didn’t put the laptop in, it’s Apple but it still ain’t pretty) and two years in I will say with confidence  I am a blogger and an artist and this is where I work.

The Bare Necessities Of ……This Week

Morning! today I have another bunch of products that are rocking my world at the moment, and it needs rocking as I have a chest infection (caused by immune suppressing drugs) and my liver function is up the wazoo (caused by the aforementioned drugs!) so I’m feeling a little less than better!

First, and I am as late as I can be to this party, I have upgraded to an iPhone ….

image

I guessed you wouldn’t enjoy a picture of a phone you guys have probably had for the last decade so here is my Harley Quinn cover!

So, I took said phone and took these pictures, first of another daily essential – scented candles….

image

This candle is from a brilliant mens shop, Eustace and Arthur in the lovely Somerset town of Langport which is handily where my husbands family live! every time he visits he brings me another “town”, this candle named after the village Curry Rivel (yes really), smells delightful and has an unmistakeable note of curry about it! Inexplicably they don’t have these on the website but they do have brilliant gifts for men, head over to http://www.eustaceandarthur.co.uk and take a peek.

Next up, another product that I should have brought a long time ago …

image

This gel top coat by Nail Apothecary is phenomenal! it extends wear on my flakey, chippy nails past the  one day that I usually manage. It was a snip at less than a fiver, I got mine at http://www.asos.com.

There comes a time in your life when you need more than a good moisturiser before you put make up on, step forward primer…..

image

This is the cutely named Spackle ( the American word for Polyfilla) by Laura Geller, she has a different version for every concern- redness, hydration, sun protection and this one which is slightly tinted for the vampirish like me, it smooths evens and provides a great base for foundation. This tinted version would be all you need for a weekend face. Available from lots of online beauty retailers.

Finally, the pot of Dianthus that I used for these pictures……..

image

If you are not familiar with this plant please pop along to a garden centre, apart from their gorgeous and prolific flowers, their perfume is insane- floral and with a heady note of clove. This tiny pot scents my whole patio.

I hope to finally be well enough to head to the sewing machine next week, so expect a sewing themed post next week including the pattern company that will be making me bankrupt!

Have a great week

Kisses

PS After my darling hubby bought me a table easel, I was finally able to finish this portrait of my dear departed Millie, not bad for my first foray into oils for yonks. Don’t worry, she really did look as fed up as this most days!

Faux fur, Faux leather And A Genuine Hot Dog

Hello loves! well, the darling husband has a birthday this weekend so we took ourselves off to London so that he could visit his favourite comic shop which is handily in Berwick street, home to all the best fabric shops!it was a perfect opportunity to buy some fabric for a Mollie Makes project (more later).

As we were strolling down I spyed this……

Yes a wildly gyrating Queenie, i’d love to know what she thought!

Into the fantastic Berwick Street cloth shop, I think the windows give you an idea of what is to be found in this stuffed to the brim gem of a shop……

I found these two to make this project……

The good news is I have enough fabric to make a couple, so they will eventually be in the Etsy shop and the icing on the cake was meeting a lovely man called Vasilis who teaches at the London College of Art! He showed me some gorgeous gowns his students had made, he will be emailing these too me but is leaving soon for India- when I have them I will give you a bonus post!

A quick pop in the art shop and then to Gosh comics for the birthday boy, something awful happened inside dear reader, I bought stuff!…………

I am obsessed with Harley Quin and the Suicide Squad characters and will be pimping my car out in her colours. I have no reasonable explanation for the manga book..

By this time we were famished and as my husband and by default daughter are partially german we went to Herman Ze German, that is not an awful stereotypical faux pas on my part, its called that! these hot dogs are the real Mccoy imported from the black forest. I have no idea why, but I took no photos of the food, instead here’s the lovely interior…

I had a veggie wurst and sauerkraut which is a superfood according to the Hemsley sisters, not sure how they would feel about the cheesy chips..

Finally, a tired walk down to chinatown, we popped into M and M world but I can’t show you what I bought as its a birthday present for my little bro’.

we popped to our favourite supermarket, for the essentials……………
