This is the Awesome Marketing Planner from the equally awesome Claire at The Girls Mean Business.

It is no exaggeration that this has completely changed my mindset and will change my business overtime . It helps you with every aspect of managing your business and is on offer at a 1/3 of retail price making it just £10.00! If you have a small business I give you permission to click through to here http://www.thegirlsmeanbusiness.com. Not only do you receive the planner there are online tutorials and an amazing wall chart!

Now on to the more sparkly, unicorny news! I have decided on my first make to face the CE test! this unicorn will be tweaked and tested by the middle of the summer………

I have sourced all the relevant material and just need to get my testing gear together!

And while we are on the subject of unicorns, in a quiet moment at our last craft fair, my super clever daughter came up with the idea of themed unicorns aimed at children over 10 and adult collectors.

The theme we have decided to start with is cake! so, I present to you ………..

I have decided on two initial designs………

On the left is Victoria sponge and on the right the gloriously named Baroness Bertha Von Battenburg! Bertha got named by my mate Shell at http://www.facebook.com/ShellsCCC, isn’t it fab!

I have all the supplies arriving for these this week including scents! Each unicorn will also have a slice of cake charm, I tried crocheting one……

But i’m not delighted with the result so I will be making one from polymer clay.

In the future there will be two more British favourites and then European favourites like macarons from the Unicorn Patisserie and American specialities from the Unicorn Bake House!

There is no doubt it has been a super busy month so when we have had a chance me and the CEO Darcey ( and VP Milo) have made the most of this……

the ancient bluebell wood that is a stones throw from WDS HQ, I wish I could give you some idea of the smell!

By next month I hope I will have sorted out a newsletter sign up which will have all the other news that doesn’t make the blog, and special offers.

In the meantime have a super day!

That Was The Year That Was!

Hello my little cupcakes! How ya doing? it occurred to me that this is the last post for this year ( I’m a bit slow on the uptake) so lets have a look at what happened…….

img_5116

It wasn’t a great year health wise! finally, after 12 years I have a correct diagnosis for all my aches and pains, and by the beginning of next year I might have some effective treatment!

It was an AMAZING year for my teeny tiny company and it pretty much is all due to this…..

This unicorn ( a copyright free pattern from the now defunct Craftseller magazine) was ordered a total of 6 times! for me that constituted a viral hit!

I then had a sell out fair……..

P1010026

Where I sold a bunch of bows and some things I had designed my self. This really gave me the confidence I needed to design for myself….

And this has meant that I have worked very single week since June and will be working up to Christmas Eve! Incredibly I was also asked to Kirstie Allsops Craft fair ( i couldn’t go as I had no stock!).

Whats in store for While Darcey Sleeps in the coming year? Im going to get child safety accreditation for my makes, I’m going to keep designing in the kawaii style (Japanese for cute), I’m going to sell patterns, kits and fabric felt and I’m going to plan to be ready for Kirstie this year!

This blog started in December 2013, a year to the day after my first panic attack, that original blog post had a picture of a bag that had summed up how I felt……

How appropriate that everything unicorn has made me have the most successful year!

The first person to follow my blog was Mrs P and she said “I can’t wait to see where that unicorn flies”, well Mrs P, that unicorn is getting turbo chargers!

Grab on everyone and lets see just how far this unicorn can fly!

Love you lots

Floats Like A Painter, Crafts Like A Ninja!

Well hello there! It has been a busy week here at WDS, and I have noticed that I have been more butterfly brained than normal. However, on this occasion it seems to be working in my favour, you see I have a million things to do and make before my Christmas fair at the end of the month, and if I stick to one project I tend to get a bit bored and start checking Instagram! But my picking up and putting down has kept my interest up and has achieved quite a lot, let’s have a look…..

This crazy pompom wreath just needs some ribbon and it’s all done ……..

This wreath needs a few more embellishments and it will be good to go……….

Some things are completely finished ……

Ive made quite a few of these as they are popular with the younger customer!

I have mocked up one of the Christmas card designs……..

I have also designed my stickers to go on the back of the card, but I’m not going to show you just yet!

So it looks like my lack of concentration may have actually been a bonus!

By the time you read this I will have just one sleep until I fulfill one of the goals from my dream board, can you guess which one?

Have a scrumptious week

Kisses

Karen

What A Year That Was!

It is one year, 2 days since I started this blog and it truly has been the most amazing year!

When I started I was absolutely convinced that the only person who would read it was my mum!  But that very first blog was read by several people and got my first follower (thanks Mrs P!).

It was also the year that I started to paint again, first with these two, painted for my daughters friends mums!…….

I started work officially in March and offered a painting as a prize in a charity auction, and things took off from there commissions have flowed thick and fast……..

image

I have also crafted until my fingers have nearly fallen off, I will have done three craft fairs by the time you read this, here I am at Seddlescombe Vintage Happening……….

image

This was the first time I had sold things I had designed myself, like these hearts…….

So, in a year when my physical health has declined it is the sheer joy of doing what I love most, and getting paid for it, that has held my head together.

December 10th 2012 was my first panic attack and three years later I am self employed artist! from not being able to walk the few feet to the bin to this seems like a miracle, but like all miracles its hard work, support from all sorts of people and the will to get better that finds me here…I couldn’t be more grateful.

Finally, thanks again to all of you that drop by to this little but very precious space, you will never know how much you mean to me.

Extra big kisses

Karen
