Colour Of The Year Goes To…..Greenery!

Good Morning to you fair reader! I have had this post in the back of my mind since January, every year the colour experts at Pantone decide on a colour of the year. Last year two colours made the grade…….

Ah the beauty that is rose quartz and serenity! This year however Pantone have chosen this……

It’s green, very green not mint or emerald …..just green. As you can probably gather green is not my favourite but I was ready to do my usual round up of products that will bring you bang up to date, I was ready to hunt out all the greenery goodies for you.

However it turns out that the high street aren’t feeling it either, I found mint and pistachio and sage but greenery was thin on the ground. Just in case it is a wild success for you here is what I found…….

This lovely bag comes from Boden, not cheap at £140 but bang on the greenery trend. Too much money? Or too green? Try this…..

This mini beauty with its cute bag charm comes in at a mini price of £17.99, head over to Zara for this.

How about some shoes? ………..

These sandals are from Clarks and are £55.I can testify to their comfort as I have some from a previous season.

Still not convinced? How about just a pop of green in your cosmetics? First up…….

A tiny bit bright but would look fab close to the lashes for a flash of colour. This is from Beauty bay, made by Sugar Pill and £11.00.

Nails next…..

My personal favourite is this Illmasqua nail varnish in Radium, £14.50 and available widely on line.

Finally, this one is a bit of a cheat…..

This Barry M lipstick is green in the bullet but turns pink on your lips! A bargainous £4 and available widely.

And a bit of a PS: Butter London have done a collaboration with Pantone, there is a set including Greenery and some of the other colours for 2017…..

but as far as I can make out only available in the US currently where it’s retails for $39.

So there you have it, I might just go and get that Illmasqua polish to break myself into this trend. What’s your thoughts on Greenery? I’d love to hear from you!

My New Year Heroes!

Morning loves! January is a hideous month, too dark, too cold and fundamentally it’s not Christmas! So how do we get through it? Why don’t you join me for a look at some gorgeousness, some of which is actually useful! I promise it might make life more bearable 🙂

Make up – for some of us girls ( me included) sticking some nice make up on is really beneficial, making us feel more confident, this lovely Younique palette is rapidly becoming my go to …….

Full of lovely pinks and purples, with matte, shimmer and downright glittery shaded, it really does shine some light on the darkest day and the colours are a lot more subtle on the eye……

Art supplies – I know, not all of you are artists but I know a lot of people are colouring and card making and doing lots of lovely crafty stuff, take a look at these beauties……..

These clever little minxes do all the shading for you, the pen gets put in a mixing chamber and then you just colour and bingo! All shading done by the pen!

Sales! – my favourite bag brand Nica is on sale all over the place at the moment, although Nica’s sale is over this beauty is in the special offer section on their website…..

And it’s £20! No shipping and in a variety of colours! Sorry I’ve got to lay down for a minute…..

I’m back with our final goody kale chips! Buy a bag of pre chopped kale, discard the tough stalk bits, put on a bowl and spray with fry light, spread evenly on a baking tray…….

Put on the oven at a medium high heat and WATCH THEM, these little devils will burn if you leave them to their own devices! Take them out when the edges are browning and place in a bowl to cool and crisp up……..

And eat!

by the way the crystals that appear in the pictures are chosen for inspiration, creativity and peace,my New Year gift to you!

Scrub, Polish And Sparkle!

IT’S NEARLY CHRISTMAS!!!!!! and with it the need to look a little glamerer (its a word) than normal. There’s parties and gatherings and family meals, and its nice to look and feel a bit special when everything else is so sparkly.

So I have three products to help you sparkle and shine through the festivities. First up, a new brand to the UK Frank Body, I bought their nearly miraculous scrub…….

Made with Repix (

It ‘aint pretty, its major ingredient is coffee grounds, and it makes the bathroom look and smell like a messy branch of Costa, it also ‘aint cheap at £12.95 a pack but oh my days its good! it firms, softens and tones, and blurs the appearance of stretch marks! they also have a complete range of skincare which I will definitely be investigating. Pop over to

Next, our polish is provided by a powered facial brush, mine is a Magnitone, but there are millions on the market, Now, I have come late to this new invention and am probably preaching to the converted but the difference this gadget makes to your skin is amazing! my very dry, very sensitive skin has been transformed and I need about half the moisturiser I normally use. My brush came for the luxury discount site

Made with Repix (

Finally, the sparkle is provided by this amazing collaberation between Urban Decay and Gwen Stefani……

Made with Repix (

This actually belongs to my daughter but she has kindly lent it and swatched it for you……..

These shadows are the softest, most pigmented, most bendable shadows I have come across. Not cheap at £40 but how about a late addition to the Christmas list? Just a word on the swatches, daughter has vampire like- I mean very pale skin so bear that in mind when deciding if its for you. Have you decided that you can’t live with out it? its out of stock at a lot of retailers, but at time of going to press it was available at and

The next time we see each other it will be Boxing Day! don’t expect much sense from me as I will be heading off to the family homestead for a pot luck feast with the reli’s, so let me wish you the most peaceful, joy filled Christmas possible, now go out and shine like the little stars you are!!

As my brother once said to me in a slightly inebriated email, I fear, dear reader you find me quite undone! Or to put it more honestly I haven’t prepared a blog post! Have I got any excuses? Well, I’ve been working…….

And I have been stitching, these bathing Belles are nearing completion ready for the vintage fair, ….

Ive stitched a few bears…….

I’ve done a lot of running round after this fella…..imageAnd I went to a speeding diversionary course, it really was useful and focused the mind on what the truly awful consequences of going too fast are, so expect better driving from me.

Finally, the evil step sisters that are arthritis and fibromyalgia have had me in a strangle hold, but you know what? I have made and painted and played and learnt, so they haven’t won!

Normal service will be resumed next week, thanks for sticking with me!

Art , Beauty, And A Spangly Mini!

The family Lorenz took itself of to London this with a simple mission of buying ourselves something pretty! We also wanted to give Carys a pre-results stress buster. Here is what I bought.

First, I into Selfridges for some Charlotte Tilbury eye crayons…….

I needed a new Bronzed Garnet, I didn’t need an Amethyst Aphrodisiac but couldn’t resist it’s green eye enhancing powers!

Across the road to Marks and Spencer as they stock the marvellous new perfume range – Shay and Blue, I have had a tester of their salt caramel scent and really wanted more…..

Just £30 for 30 ml and there are a range of lovely single note scents to choose from.

What followed was a hike to Hermann Ze German for a genuine German hot dog, it was well worth the walk to Soho, but I completely forgot to snap it!

Refreshed and rested, we dropped in to Cass Art for supplies, again I had things I needed, like paper and paint but these watercolour markers fell in to my bag as well…..

I then succumbed to a bag for life from there that featured a particular colour and on the flip side detailed paintings that feature this colour…….

After we allowed my husband some time in the comic shop, we finished off in Beyond Retro, as always stuffed to the brim with vintage clothes, I bought this……….

Don’t panic I shall not be wearing this sequinned miin! But I will hopefully be turning it into a bag, if I get my act together it will be a tutorial.

Finally, I have the best of news that I wanted to shout from the rooftops but was banned from doing so- my dear daughter got 9 As and 2Bs in her GCSEs!!! This kid has spent e last few months tied to her desk so I am so happy she has been rewarded.

I have to run to an MRI now so…

10 Things I Can’t Live Without!

Sometimes products or objects come into your life and you really struggle to imagine what life was like before them! Here are my 10 must haves at the moment, this list is ever changing as new products come out, but these are really special. So in no particular order:

1. Pilot frixxion pens…

These clever little pens write like normal ball pens but you can rub them out with their built in eraser- so far so normal but if you ever work with pattern pieces that need drawing onto fabric, this is where the imagic happens! Gently heat with a hairdryer and all pen marks disappear!! I found mine in WHSmith. Thanks to the super talented Sew Sweet for the tip and now this life changing info is yours!

2. Micellar water..

It has taken me until 50 to realise that cleanser does not necessarily mean make up remover! This fabulous water by Garnier  does the lot and soothes at the same time, absolute must have, available at Boots approx,4.99.

3. Repix photo editing app…..

This is photo editing for dummies I.e me! the ability to adjust all the properties of a photo with a slider is genius and produces great results. Available in the Apple app store.

4. Make Up

i need great quality make up as my skin and eyes are so sensitive, I only use Charlotte Tilbury and this great palette by Toofaced recommended to me by Itsmisstazmin.   These are all great products which need little skill or time to apply, perfect! Charlotte Tilbury from £19 and Toofaced palette approx £40 from various retailers.

5. Derwent Inktense pencils…

These are water soluble but are beautifully vivid whether they have been diluted or not. approx £40 from large art stores.

6. Lush Kerbside Violet perfume

This is a new one for me and it is gorgeous, exactly as it says it is a sweet Violet perfume but with a faint hint of city smoke. £9 from Lush stores and online.

7. Australian bush Flower essences..

These amazing sprays smell delicious but also provide instant calming relief. Approx £14 from health food shops and Amazon

8. My iPad! ( there are other tablets available)

My entire life is run from here! It’s a mini iPad so it is light and the touch

screen is great for my painful joints, the camera is phenomenal and I write and edit my blog almost entirely from here. Approx £300 from various retailers.

9, Buddhify app.

This is is also a new one for me, but it is great! There are meditations for every situation and they are very affirming, the stress one ends with the voice over telling you ” you are more brilliant than you think” who doesn’t need that every now and again! From the app store.

10. My ice cream bracelet

This amazing little charm was bought for me by my husband and I think it’s perfect, I wear it when I have to do something difficult as it reminds me, quite literally that life is sweet! charm £50 form Swarovski

Do do you have any special things that you can’t live without? Let me know- I might need it!

There Wasn’t A Moist Eye In The House!

Lets be clear from the get go, I LOVE makeup! In the mid 90s I had a toolbox full! All that makeup to achieve a beige eye and a beige lip!

Sadly, make up does not love me anymore, we have had a bit of a conscious uncoupling due to my suffering from Sjögren’s syndrome. This delightful disease robs you of your tears and your saliva ( and other bodily secretions that we won’t discuss on a family friendly blog!).

This has meant all eye makeup has to be artificial tear proof, the plus side of this type of makeup is it generally comes in handy crayon form so you can go from zero to fab in 5 minutes flat. Here’s a selection of mine…

Starting with eyes…there is a huge selection of tear proof eyeshadow

to be had, here are my favourites….

I have three Charlotte Tilbury ones that are made to enhance your eye colour, as I have blue/ green eyes I have some of each, The black diamonds shade is the easiest smokey eye EVER, I also have a Clinique one from their marvellous chubby stick range, this lovely shade of lilac is great for this time of year.

From left to right , Charlotte Tilbury colour chameleon pencils in  Bronzed Garnet, Black Diamonds and Champagne Diamonds  at £19 and Clinique Chubby stick in Lavish Lilac at £17.  There are great alternatives available from boots No 7 and Bourjois.

Once you have experienced the joys of just colouring in you eyes, you may be tempted by lip crayons, I have some of those too!

From top to bottom, Clinique Chubby Stick in Heaping Hazlenut £17, Revlon colour burst Laquer stain in Demure and Just Bitten kissable balm stain in Lovesick £7.99.

Again there are super high street versions, in my opinion Revlon has the best range including Matte and super shiny Laquer.

Finally, mascara…..hmmm, this is a tricky one for me, obviously I have waterproof, but that can flake and ordinary ones don’t survive eye drops.

This is a really good waterproof from a company called Pur, Marks and Spencer sell it for £15

But my favourite is  Loreal Beauty Tubes, this is a two step application that holds up to most eye drops and is removed with water, YAY!

Sorry for the stock photo but I went to buy a new one and Boots were out of stock, have this in stock for £9.55 .

Do you have a hero beauty product? Let me know, I might need it!

Tune in next Wednesday for my surprise reconciliation with bunting!
