Merry Christmas! Have A Piece Of cake!

I have had this happy blog post ready to roll since the beginning of the week and yet again the saddest of events has happened in the meantime, yet again I’m extending sympathy, this time to the people of Germany. I’m so sorry that there is nothing more to say than I wish this would stop 😦

Feliz Navidad! Joyeux Noel!, Froliche Weinachten!,Buon Natale! and in my best year 9 latin Felicim Natalem Christi! Apologies if I’ve missed your country, my aged brain can only cope with so many languages!

Now in the past the Christmas Eve post has contained no more than a pretty picture and some good wishes, but this year I have not exactly a tutorial, more of a pattern review, any way lots of pictures! do you remember me showing you this book?…..

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

Its a great book with loads of actually quite useful patterns, but not the pattern I needed which was a sewing machine cover! so I adapted the pattern for a stand mixer…..strawberry_small2

I had none of the above colours, so mine looks bit more like raspberry cheesecake! I measured the length, width and height of the sewing machine and made this……….

Then a row of scallops round the top edge to look like icing……….

I then crocheted a panel for the top…………

I joined the top to the sides with some surface crochet to hopefully look like piped cream…..

I made a fruit for the top, its a bit of a strawberry/raspberry hybrid, plus some slices and a bit of “piped cream”…….

And it turned out like this (shamelessly festive photo alert!) ………

I’m so happy with it!

All that remains is to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!

Kisses

Save Or Splurge?

Ding dong merrily on high! who’s excited for Christmas? For me it literally is “the most wonderful time of the year”but it is also the most expensive time of the year!

In my family I’m known as a bit of a personal  shopper, able to hunt out the best gifts and the unexpected at the drop of the hat, so let’s have a look at a few items that could be on your Christmas lists with a handy splurge/save option according to your available finances!

Perfume features high on a lot of peoples wish lists, the new perfume from Alexander McQueen really is something special……….

With notes of three night flowering blooms; Sambac jasmine, tuberose and ylang ylang, it is exotic and mysterious, and that my darlings is why this bottle will set you back £285! to be fair there are smaller bottles starting at £50.

So how about a save option? I am a super fan of the clever folks at Shay and Blue, this offering hits similar mysterious notes….

Atropa belladonna is inspired by deadly nightshade, with a heart of cassis berries, and notes of narcissus, jasmine and bourbon vanilla, it is a more pocket friendly £30 for 30ml.

How about a glamorous nail polish to see you into New Years Eve? let me present the most glamorous varnish on the market……..

Take a minute to breath in the exquisite design of the shoe designer Christian Louboutin, this is a bottle that deserves a place on your dressing table, but glamour comes with a price tag…£36 to be precise.

I’ll be honest kids, there isn’t a save option for this one,

however if cool polish is what you are looking for, look no further……

Soigne (translates as take care of) polish has up to 85% botanical ingredients, is free from the 5 carcinogens that can be in polish, is not tested on animals and is vegan friendly! hit their sale and you can grab a bottle for £4.80, it normally retails at £11.

While we are on the subject of New Years Eve, it is a great time to try the new trend of flat party shoes. If money is no object there is no better designer that Valentino for this new alternative to heels…

Yum! but at £615 it would give me heart failure to wear them!

Mercifully this is where ASOS rides in with these cuties……

Sorry for the screen shot but at least you have all the info!

Finally, and this might be a niche market, I have an obsession with decorations from bauble makers to the stars Bombki, their macaron set is a dream purchase……..

At £59… to be honest I don’t know if I would risk it, but thats ok because look what Anthropologie  have……

These are currently in the sale at £18.20! and I like these a bit more!

A Tale Of Two ‘Poos, Paint And Too Many Cables!

* As I finished editing this post the shooting started in Germany, I have written posts sympathising with various countries whose citizens have been brutally murdered, I have posted Je Suis Parisienne and everyone that followed. I’m not going to post about these events anymore, it’s not because I don’t care, it’s because my heart is breaking because it doesn’t make any difference. I want you to know that I love you, whatever your nationality and wherever you live, and that I cry with you when these events happen. This blog will be where we escape, where we laugh and gaze at pretty things, but most of all a place of love.*

Good morning to you fair reader! well what a week at WDS HQ! We have been decorating our tired and faded lounge. As you can imagine when I decorate I can spend 6 hours choosing a the right shade of beige! To try and shorten the process I downloaded an amazing app by the paint makers Valspar. This app allows you to take a picture of an item and it will choose a range of colours that match it! So I took a picture of the birds on this gorgeous cushion ( bought for me by my lovely sister in law) ………

After running the two birds through the app, I got these two colour palettes……

I eventually chose a slighter bluer of the above palette and the top right colour of the faded in time palette, both colours were Dulux rather than Valspar.

Work commenced with a tidy up of the cables that were behind the TV unit, worryingly there were this many with no purpose……

The dogs helped, Milo thought if he got on a ladder he might be tall enough to paint…..

Darcey didn’t let the position of her bed put her off…..

We painted and sanded and glossed, and finally I could hang these pictures that hubby and daughter scored from the charity shop……

The warm apricot white also makes a lovely backdrop for this Alexander McQueen sketch……..

Can you see the whole room? Not yet, the curtains need changing as well as a new rug etc and with my ability to agonise over the correct shades that might take a while! And what appeared in my Facebook feed the day after we started painting? This “must have” palette for summer from Elle Decor………

Hey ho, seems I’m not so original!

Please take care of yourselves, you mean so much to me xxxx

The Bare Necessities Of ……This Week

Morning! today I have another bunch of products that are rocking my world at the moment, and it needs rocking as I have a chest infection (caused by immune suppressing drugs) and my liver function is up the wazoo (caused by the aforementioned drugs!) so I’m feeling a little less than better!

First, and I am as late as I can be to this party, I have upgraded to an iPhone ….

image

I guessed you wouldn’t enjoy a picture of a phone you guys have probably had for the last decade so here is my Harley Quinn cover!

So, I took said phone and took these pictures, first of another daily essential – scented candles….

image

This candle is from a brilliant mens shop, Eustace and Arthur in the lovely Somerset town of Langport which is handily where my husbands family live! every time he visits he brings me another “town”, this candle named after the village Curry Rivel (yes really), smells delightful and has an unmistakeable note of curry about it! Inexplicably they don’t have these on the website but they do have brilliant gifts for men, head over to http://www.eustaceandarthur.co.uk and take a peek.

Next up, another product that I should have brought a long time ago …

image

This gel top coat by Nail Apothecary is phenomenal! it extends wear on my flakey, chippy nails past the  one day that I usually manage. It was a snip at less than a fiver, I got mine at http://www.asos.com.

There comes a time in your life when you need more than a good moisturiser before you put make up on, step forward primer…..

image

This is the cutely named Spackle ( the American word for Polyfilla) by Laura Geller, she has a different version for every concern- redness, hydration, sun protection and this one which is slightly tinted for the vampirish like me, it smooths evens and provides a great base for foundation. This tinted version would be all you need for a weekend face. Available from lots of online beauty retailers.

Finally, the pot of Dianthus that I used for these pictures……..

image

If you are not familiar with this plant please pop along to a garden centre, apart from their gorgeous and prolific flowers, their perfume is insane- floral and with a heady note of clove. This tiny pot scents my whole patio.

I hope to finally be well enough to head to the sewing machine next week, so expect a sewing themed post next week including the pattern company that will be making me bankrupt!

Have a great week

Kisses

PS After my darling hubby bought me a table easel, I was finally able to finish this portrait of my dear departed Millie, not bad for my first foray into oils for yonks. Don’t worry, she really did look as fed up as this most days!
