That Was The Year That Was!

Hello my little cupcakes! How ya doing? it occurred to me that this is the last post for this year ( I’m a bit slow on the uptake) so lets have a look at what happened…….

img_5116

It wasn’t a great year health wise! finally, after 12 years I have a correct diagnosis for all my aches and pains, and by the beginning of next year I might have some effective treatment!

It was an AMAZING year for my teeny tiny company and it pretty much is all due to this…..

This unicorn ( a copyright free pattern from the now defunct Craftseller magazine) was ordered a total of 6 times! for me that constituted a viral hit!

I then had a sell out fair……..

P1010026

Where I sold a bunch of bows and some things I had designed my self. This really gave me the confidence I needed to design for myself….

And this has meant that I have worked very single week since June and will be working up to Christmas Eve! Incredibly I was also asked to Kirstie Allsops Craft fair ( i couldn’t go as I had no stock!).

Whats in store for While Darcey Sleeps in the coming year? Im going to get child safety accreditation for my makes, I’m going to keep designing in the kawaii style (Japanese for cute), I’m going to sell patterns, kits and fabric felt and I’m going to plan to be ready for Kirstie this year!

This blog started in December 2013, a year to the day after my first panic attack, that original blog post had a picture of a bag that had summed up how I felt……

How appropriate that everything unicorn has made me have the most successful year!

The first person to follow my blog was Mrs P and she said “I can’t wait to see where that unicorn flies”, well Mrs P, that unicorn is getting turbo chargers!

Grab on everyone and lets see just how far this unicorn can fly!

Love you lots

I Have Become Comfortably Numb!

I hope you understand that the body of this blog was written before the events in London and it is humorous in tone, therefore I have inserted my thoughts on those events  above it.

Here we are again, back in the middle of a senseless act of terrorism. This time on the streets of the city that I worked in for many years and still like to visit. I had to contact my husband who frequently works near by to seek reassurance that he and his colleagues were safe.

I have no words that will make any sense of the murder of both civilians and one brave police officer that literally stood in the path of a mad man.

What can we do? nothing except carry on and refuse to let those that are filled with hate change our minds on anything.

We must support our police officers and those of the ambulance and fire service who have to walk into scenes such as those.

We must continue to demonstrate that only love wins.

Morning my little pains au chocolat! it has been a bit of a week here at WDS towers, I have had two visits to  the medical profession in the last two weeks and they were equally challenging! Visit one confirmed that the numbness that I have been experiencing is as a result of damage in my neck and has limited treatment options…….

img_5116

Visit two confirmed a laundry list of diagnoses also with- yes you’ve guessed it – limited treatment options….

So whats a girl to do? I tell you what girls do – we go and run the world thats what! or if you are me you did this…….

I ate a considerable amount of chocolate……

I designed and made this…..

I have a craft fair booked with the amazing Paper Daisy Events who do marvellous publicity for their artists , so I went and looked at my entry……

I walked these morons…….

They really are morons Milo won’t climb the stairs at my mums and uses the stair lift!

( check out my Facebook page for the video)

And I did all the grown up things like taxing the car and networking and just flipping got on with it because thats what girls do!

12 Days Of Crafting Fa la la !

Good Morning Darcey’s Angels! These last couple of weeks of November are a funny old time at WDS HQ, what begins as the most joyful of months with serious crafting for Christmas well underway, by the last week things are getting a bit ” if I see another sprig of holly I’m going postal”.

At this point I have two commissions to finish and by next weekend all Christmas crafting will be done, I will breathe a sigh of relief and turn my attention to what I am going to do in the 2 weeks I’m going to take off, and of course the answer is crafting! Here are the projects I would like to get done:

First the gloves to match the scarf I made a while ago……

This Louisa Harding pattern from Knits From An English Rose is so pretty …and so difficult! It features lace and cables but is totally worth it knitted in Louisa’s Amitola yarn.

New scarf and gloves requires a new hat……

This from an ages old Rowan book all patterns are knitted in their Big Wool, I’ve got a  lovely caramel ball winging its way to me.

I’ve been dying to do this from Mollie Makes…….

I won’t be building my own loom ( the magazine  contains full instructions) I will be using one from my childhood that has hidden away for years!

I hope to get round to using these waterproof fabrics…..

I think I will make some make up bags with them.

Finally I have decided to pick up jewellery making again and I will be polishing my techniques with the aid of this book….

I really want to make these…….

Obviously I will show you what gets made in the New Year!

Have a super week

Floats Like A Painter, Crafts Like A Ninja!

Well hello there! It has been a busy week here at WDS, and I have noticed that I have been more butterfly brained than normal. However, on this occasion it seems to be working in my favour, you see I have a million things to do and make before my Christmas fair at the end of the month, and if I stick to one project I tend to get a bit bored and start checking Instagram! But my picking up and putting down has kept my interest up and has achieved quite a lot, let’s have a look…..

This crazy pompom wreath just needs some ribbon and it’s all done ……..

This wreath needs a few more embellishments and it will be good to go……….

Some things are completely finished ……

Ive made quite a few of these as they are popular with the younger customer!

I have mocked up one of the Christmas card designs……..

I have also designed my stickers to go on the back of the card, but I’m not going to show you just yet!

So it looks like my lack of concentration may have actually been a bonus!

By the time you read this I will have just one sleep until I fulfill one of the goals from my dream board, can you guess which one?

Have a scrumptious week

Kisses

Tollies Vintage Happening!

Last Sunday was my first proper craft fair and with quite a few nerves, off we went to Sedlescombe for Tollies Vintage Happening…..

image

The fair was also supporting Chestnut Tree House our local hospice that care for children with life limiting conditions, here is the organisers dad in his tshirt……..

image

He was one of an army of helpers that ensured that the event ran smoothly.

We decided to get involved with the theme, so here I am as Rosie the Riveter, modelling the lovely sign my husband made for me……….

image

Apart from fab stalls, there was great entertainment in the form of the Charleston Jive Squad, dressed in 40s costume they jived their way through the day and kept us all bopping along with great music, here are some of their gorgeous gals and an action shot…..

image

image

There was also a vintage car rally, I am quite a petrol head and fell in love with this Maserati…….

image

And keeping us fed and watered was the marvellous Rose and Olive purveyors of great tea ( in proper cups) and lush cake, oh and all the while looking this gorgeous………

image

It was a great day and we sold lots, it also gave me valuable insight into what the public like, so I’m able to plan for the next fair much better informed.

Finally, a huge thanks to the organiser Sandie Perkins……

image

She did a cracking job and was always checking to see if we were OK.

So this week is my art show at Lindfield Art festival, after that I should have some time to breathe and do some tutorials for you!

That Was The Week That Was!

It has been super busy at WDS HQ, at the start of the week I delivered this painting….. image This is the gorgeous Kobi, my first all watercolour picture and I Think it came out well. Once he was safely in the hands of his owner, I started prepping for two events I have coming up. The first is …. image For this I have made more of my tattoo hearts….. image I have also started some Liberty brooches like this one………. image I will also be making more bears, I have some black curly fur and pastel pink suede that’s going to make a lovely girl bear. The second event is an art festival in a neighbouring village. I have committed to six paintings and I am hoping to do a spread of subjects; there will be a couple of fairy paintings featuring animals that live in our local wood, I have started the drawing for the Dormouse fairy who I think will be called Dora, the mice are asleep but Dora is pretending……… image I will do some animal portraits, I will definitely do a horse, probably this one…….. image And for a change of pace some comic fan art, I am slightly obsessed by Jared Leto as the Joker in the new film Suicide Squad…… image Not to everyones taste I know but a good stretch for me as an artist. So that will keep me out of trouble this coming week and at then next weekend we get to welcome this little sweetie…… image This is is Milo a 9 week old toy poodle who we hope will be a lovely best friend for Darcey! So who has plans for next week? What’s on your desk or work table? Let me know I’d love to hear what’s cooking with you. Kisses Karen
