You Gotta Respect The Process!

Morning my little cupcakes, you find me in a sunnier mood and ready to share with you the process of designing one of my felt doodads and at the end of the post a giveaway! And a sneak peek!  Yay!

Let’s start with what’s on telly, yes I have to work in the living room and I have to have the telly on to keep my mind from flying away! So for the last few weeks, this has been absorbing my spare brain capacity……

Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright are phenomenal as a President and First Lady hell bent on furthering their own careers.

So we start with lots of drawing that eventually turns into a design…….

I decided to start with the Chinese New Year character, 2017 being the year of the rooster.

The design then gets reduced to simplified lines and stuck to card………

The tiger balm is omnipresent at WDS HQ as a nice alternative to more painkillers! Then i cut the pieces and because they are teeny tiny I bung them in a sandwich bag……………

I draw round the pattern pieces using a Pilot Frixxion pen that erases with a blast from your hairdryer…….

Except this is where life in blog land went wrong and I used a biro!

Sewing and embroidering commences, for this little girl I wanted a face that was a bit like a Blythe doll……….

Many apologies for the light quality here, it has been a super grey week in normally sunny Sussex!

Finally, when all is done we have this………….

This little girl is made in the traditional good luck colours of red, gold and pink and could be yours if you pop over to our Facebook and like this picture on our page ! All the lovely likers will be entered into a draw for this lucky rooster to pop on your keyring or hang where you need it most!

Finally, there will be new products coming to While Darcey Sleeps, here is a little teaser picture of some phenomenal supplies courtesy of http://www.sewsweet.co.uk………..

Oooooooh who’s excited?

Have a a super week

I’m So Sorry….

Hello loves, why am I sorry? well I wanted to try and resist the temptation to have my say on the inauguration of President Trump but I can’t, so if this is going to spoil your Saturday morning coffee, log off now, as always there will be no hard feelings xx

Always, as I start to write my mind begins to focus on the subject but this one brought up so many questions that I have written this post in the form of an interview. I did this so that I could try and avoid being sensationalist and prejudicial to the man who is now President.

Why does it matter so much to you? it shouldn’t , I’m British and he is not my President in any sense of the word. However that’s not how life works is it? he is effectively the leader of the free world and influences pretty much every country on trade, security and international relations. I want to have faith in the person who does that and I’m not sure I do.

Its because he is too close to Russia isn’t it? No, in fact I think a closer relationship with Russia would be great as long as its an equal partnership based on trust and not threat.

So, whats my problem? if I was an American I am pretty sure that I would be a Democrat, that party has values most closely aligned to mine, but my problem isn’t that Mr Trump is a Republican. Its more to do with him being someone who seems to lack control, to be able to speak with reason and caution in equal measure, to not make remarks about women or Mexicans or Muslims that make me physically flinch.

So he’s a loud mouth, so what? this is where I was able to narrow it down to one single, seemingly trivial thing- I don’t want him to take to Twitter every time something bothers him and I don’t want those tweets to be as uncontrolled and inflammatory as they are.

What have you got against Twitter? the answer is nothing and Mr Trump is free to tweet as the outgoing President did but when he does he must remember that everyone is reading them not just his supporters, not just Americans , EVERYONE.

So, what do you want? I want his administration to be as successful as possible, I want him to bring manufacturing back to the USA as that would be good for everyone.I want him to listen to advice and become a great President ,I really do.

Now what? Well…..Im going to hope for the best, but I also wore this hat today…….

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

Nice hat right? pink with cat ears, knitted in Wool and the Gang’s Crazy Sexy Wool, right up my alley …….except this is a hat with a message.

The pattern comes from the Pussy Hat Project, a group of women ( around a 100,000) that are going to march in Washington wearing these hats.

Whats the point? pop over to http://www.pussyhatproject.com to read their full explanation, but basically its a celebration of womens strength , our ability to create, our ability to organise,to reclaim pink as the colour of strength and to send a visual message to the new President that women are watching and expect him to treat them with respect.

Normal service will resume next week but you know what? I might still be wearing that  hat!

My New Year Heroes!

Morning loves! January is a hideous month, too dark, too cold and fundamentally it’s not Christmas! So how do we get through it? Why don’t you join me for a look at some gorgeousness, some of which is actually useful! I promise it might make life more bearable 🙂

Make up – for some of us girls ( me included) sticking some nice make up on is really beneficial, making us feel more confident, this lovely Younique palette is rapidly becoming my go to …….

Full of lovely pinks and purples, with matte, shimmer and downright glittery shaded, it really does shine some light on the darkest day and the colours are a lot more subtle on the eye……

Art supplies – I know, not all of you are artists but I know a lot of people are colouring and card making and doing lots of lovely crafty stuff, take a look at these beauties……..

These clever little minxes do all the shading for you, the pen gets put in a mixing chamber and then you just colour and bingo! All shading done by the pen!

Sales! – my favourite bag brand Nica is on sale all over the place at the moment, although Nica’s sale is over this beauty is in the special offer section on their website…..

And it’s £20! No shipping and in a variety of colours! Sorry I’ve got to lay down for a minute…..

I’m back with our final goody kale chips! Buy a bag of pre chopped kale, discard the tough stalk bits, put on a bowl and spray with fry light, spread evenly on a baking tray…….

Put on the oven at a medium high heat and WATCH THEM, these little devils will burn if you leave them to their own devices! Take them out when the edges are browning and place in a bowl to cool and crisp up……..

And eat!

by the way the crystals that appear in the pictures are chosen for inspiration, creativity and peace,my New Year gift to you!

The One With The Disco Budgies!

Morning cupcakes! do you remember Friends? I loved the way their episodes were titled “the one with”, well if this week was an episode of Friends this would be the one with the disco budgies! let me explain….

Ive just joined a support group for people with Hypermobility syndrome, through this I’ve met a lovely girl called Lucy and long story short I am doing a picture of her birds as practice for me. I sorted out my palette of Inktense pencils (the ones I use for all my pictures) and this happened………..

Neon yellow discotastic budgies! aaarrrgggghhh! there was nothing else to do but start again, but by this time I had “used up” my painting arms and needed to do something else, so instead of continuing with my House Of Cards marathon I thought about what I could do instead that would still benefit my business.

First up, the felt box, look what a state its in post Christmas rush……..

Oh the horror! so I took at patterns and put them in a file, piled up the felt neatly and took out the cottons, ribbons and buttons and stashed them away.

This had got me in a grown up, sort stuff out sort of mood, so then I planned out the next three months work in detail on my Mayi Carles Planners…..

I also put down some ideas for the rest of the year!

Finally I ordered shade cards from my usual felt supplier Felted fancies Supplies…….

This year things I make will be EXACTLY the right colour.

All this effort made me think of my friend Nik’s New years resolution, she said that she was just going to do the same stuff but maybe a little better. Thats exactly what I’m going to do, just give each day that extra 5 or 10% and keep my business at the front of my mind the whole time.

Have a super week

Kisses
