Success!!

MORNING!!  sorry for shouting but you find me in good cheer, I have actually achieved stuff this week! I’m not feeling much better but have managed to shift my mood enough to get stuff done.

The biggest achievement for me was doing some sewing, sitting at the sewing machine for some reason really aggravates my neck and shoulders so I was really grateful for this super easy foldover clutch……..

I picked up the faux leather in Berwick Street and I love its squishiness, for the lining I just couldnt resist this bonkers print……..

Next time I make this I will use a more glamerous zip, this was very much a practice run but I am really pleased with how it turned out.

I also have managed to do a bit of painting……..

This will be one of the pictures I take to Lindfield Art Fair, I finally think I might be able to capture our bluebell wood, I could’nt resist using a picture with Darcey in!

Now for a design that has actually changed since this picture was done, I’ve also gathered all the supplies……

The new design is way more kawaii and will be a little felt project.

Also in the planning stage is my first project from my handbag designer book, I am first going to tackle a purse……

I love that macaron fabric and can you see the pink wallet underneath? projects are now going into these as I gather materials, hopefully it will result in work being done and time not being wasted looking for stuff!

Finally a project that is just inspiration at the moment……..

See that Dolce bag? I love it! but at over £1000 it is just not a reality, but look closely…its crocheted in a shell pattern, could we crochet the pieces, add some leather handles and then decorate with some shiny bits and bobs? well i’m the little blogger that thinks she can, this is going to take a while so I may start posting progress pictures.

I’m hoping for another productive week but next week will be a different sort of post, hope I see you here to show you!

Have a great week kittens,

Kisses

All Hail Queen Bob!

Public service announcement – this is an opinion piece with few photos and a pro equal rights stance, if thats not for you then meet me back here in a week x

This is Bob the Drag Queen………

1U4VbdY

Bob is the latest winner of Rupauls drag race, as I watched him be crowned following an hour of gorgeous gowns, make up and killer one liners I started to well up, I was remembering a brave gay man who shaped my belief that every body is equal, with absolutely no exceptions. He would have loved the fact that Drag Race has become a surprising hit, loved by gay men and middle aged straight housewives and everybody in between.

Martin Roberts was a colleague and friend of my grandmother, tall, handsome and a devout motorbike rider. Martin enjoyed the finer things in life – Fortnum and Mason’s rose and violet creams and the rose petal jelly I made him once.

I think I was about 15 when Martin was “queer bashed”, kicked and punched to unconsciousness because he was gay. Off we went to visit him with chocolates and he happily showed us his injuries, he had been kicked so hard that a piece of his pelvis was missing. he showed me the imprint of a DM on his side, outraged that he had been kicked with what was at the time, a utilitarian shoe.

He recovered and went back to work, and then moved back to his native Wales. I grew up and was sitting in my flat watching the news and there he was, Martin was on GMTV explaining that his AIDs diagnosis had meant that he had been banned from using public swimming baths in his locality. Society hadn’t  finished kicking him while he was down. I understand that he died soon after just missing the start of the retro viral drugs that would have helped him.

So, apart from a heart breaking story, whats this got to do with anything? well, our local news reported on the same day that Queen Bob was crowned that the number of homophobic attacks has risen dramatically, two recent attacks had left one man blinded and one with a jaw so smashed that he couldn’t swallow his own saliva. The shocking added fact is that we are talking about attacks that happened in Brighton, the spiritual home of the gay community.

Why am I telling you this? I’m not sure to be honest, one of the reasons is that I tried to google my friend Martin’s name and the horrible incidents that had happened to him and nothing came up, he had the misfortune of dying before the internet really got going. I suppose I also want us to be as fair to everyone as we can be, you don’t have to approve of their lifestyle but that is no excuse to lay your hands on them.

So this is for you Martin, and as Bob the drag queen would say I hope you entered the afterlife purse first and kicking the door down.

I’m On Fire! And In 3D!

I bet you saw that and thought Hollywood had finally called me? I’m afraid not dear reader a combination of rampant arthritis and the dreaded methotrexate have rendered me achy, with burning muscle pain and a face that was red and itchy, until a few days ago. As I can’t change anything about my achey bones I decided to look for skincare to sort out the beetroot face.

My go to brand in this situation is Dr Haushcka which is guaranteed to settle any inflammation within hours…but thats all it does, there is no real “performance” to them, so I had a little look round our local health food shop and mistakenly (but thank goodness) picked this up……..

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

This kit contained nothing I actually went out for but it is brilliant! there is a micro bead exfoliant, a mask and a BB cream, there was also a sachet of an overnight treatment. These products are superb, really delivering their promise of increased radiance and a heathy glow. This kit is a little over £30 and is available from lots of online retailers and direct from http://www.renskincare.com.

The next product is from Younique, yes the company that gets quite a lot of attention because of its way of recruiting staff, allegations of a pyramid scheme have been flying around but very rarely do people talk about the products. When a friend of mine started to work for them I knew I wanted to try their star product – Moodstuck 3D fibre lashes…..

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

Now I struggle with mascara, there’s the sensitivity and the lashes dropping out from the methotrexate, its a struggle, but not anymore and the results are so good here’s a before and after ( apologies for the extreme close up)……….

image

Here’s the before with very little lashes, and heres the after…..

Amazing! the application is a little bit of a faff, first the transplanting gel, then the fibres, then the gel again, but they all apply like mascara and here’s the best bit it comes off with warm water so I don’t have to scrub at my eyes! Not cheap at £23 but worth it for a bit of glamour! its available from your local Younique presenter.

Finally, and for no good reason other than I had just watched the film Divergent and the quote makes me feel stronger……

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

This beautiful necklace was made by a lady called Roelene, you can find her on Facebook just search Curiously Charmed.

I promise next week I will have that painting nearly finished!

Stay Divergent

How To Make A Bag Out Of Bluebells!

Hello loves! It’s no secret that I am absolutely nuts for the bluebells that carpet the woods at this time of year, I have taken roughly a bazillion pictures (yes I’ve counted), here is just one…..

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

In the past I have tried to prolong their magic by wearing Jo Malone’s gorgeous Wild Bluebell fragrance ( http://www.jomalone.co.uk), I have brought bluebells in from our garden……

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

The colour is without compare and how gorgeous is that little flower bridge? I am so lucky to have given it a home when my mother in law downsized.

This year I have decided I will try and paint a proper picture of them, I will be exhibiting again this year at our local arts festival and I think a picture of our local woods will go down well. I am determined not to rush and I will use all the proper grown up techniques…

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

Not much to see and actually now residing in the bin, I wasn’t sufficiently happy with my washes so instead of painting something else I will try and try again!

So then, pretty much as it does every day, my mind turned to handbags, I have tried to find a really pretty backpack, these are my favourite at the moment but only if they have handbag style top handles so that I can carry it conventionally or on my back if needed, I started to see a bluebell coloured, satin backpack with zips and decoration in the green of their stems…

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

Again I’m going to take my time with this, I need it to be the most perfect shade of blue and the right zips etc. Of course then my mind started seeing the perfect tote in rose coloured fabric…….

I’m blaming this lack of focus on my bluebell induced mania! Hopefully I will have some of the picture to show you soon, follow me on Instagram for the most up to date images!

Have a cracking week

kisses
