To Hack Or Not To Hack ?

Hello my darlings! well I’m off the steroids and will be starting my medication this Friday so we are nearly returned to normal service! In the past when I have been this ill I would be in front of the telly and not moving, but thats not how we roll anymore, so I’ve spent this week doing some up cycling with clever little hacks (all gathered from my VAST collection of crafting magazines).

I have had a total thing for these parkas for some time….

Believe it or not the originals retail for £3,500! I knew I didn’t want fur lining, trust me that this body needs no more padding 😉 but I did really like the coloured fur on the hood, so I dug out an issue of Simply Crochet and unpicked the original fur, which was handily on a zip…..

I then followed that pattern using King Cole Luxe Fur………

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

And reinserted the folded over fur into the zip, read to the end of this post for the big reveal!

Of course you then start looking through other back issues and there was a lovely quick fix for a denim jacket, I first dyed my acid wash jacket a powder pink…

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

This turned it a lovely mix of pink and pale blue, then for the little bit of glitz……

Then it got sewn to the back and….you have to wait until the end!

I was really ready to upcycle anything that didn’t move by this point! I started to think that my plain black satin bomber jacket could do with something glittery, I popped online to http://www.josyrose.com and bought these……….

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

But I didn’t… they were a little too sparkly and actually too small.

So who’s ready for the big reveal? how this for arty styling….

So a week on steroids certainly saw me get some stuff done including these…….

Possibly the worlds most impractical baby socks ever but damn! they are cute.

These last few months have been a little tricky in terms of getting stuff done and it prompted some thought of what we can achieve at WDS HQ, let me just give you something to think about- I’ve bought a book on handbag design……….

Have a luscious week

I’m Tutely In Love !!

Morning my lovelies! well, there was I with my plans of kicking up a storm on the sewing machine this week…Monday found me back in the Drs as I couldn’t catch my breath, turns out my chest infection had triggered severe asthma and I left with a course of steroids and a stern warning that if i got any worse I was to go to the hospital! I couldn’t face another week of not trying out my new sewing machine so I settled on this small but delightful project….

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

It is no secret how much I love a Mollie Makes project and now they have projects that you can sell! I chose some fun fabrics that cheered me up and off we went! I cut out….

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

I used this amazing spray tack that stops you having to sew tacking…

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

I zipped it together on the machine and finished off with a pompom….

I then popped it onto what is rapidly becoming my Mollie Makes tree! The shape of this cone that is designed to be filled with treats, reminds me of the German tradition of the Schultute. This decorated cone is given to children the day before they start school for the first time , filled to the brim with sweets, toys and school supplies it is designed to make that first day at school a little easier. I have it in mind that some larger cones could be themed to all sorts of celebrations- new baby, hen night, starting college, christmas etc. watch this space!

I have to say Ive really enjoyed sewing this week, and it started me looking at patterns, pop over to http://www.sewbox.co.uk they have so much to look at! this is my current favourite……

image

These patterns are available in a wide range of sizes and are definitely trend aware.

I’ve also been doing a bunch of up cycling as I have decided that if I can’t find exactly what I want, I will not make do any more and will adapt, change or make from scratch, I will share some of these projects next week.

Have a super week and I will do my best to be fighting fit, fingers crossed!

Kisses

The Bare Necessities Of ……This Week

Morning! today I have another bunch of products that are rocking my world at the moment, and it needs rocking as I have a chest infection (caused by immune suppressing drugs) and my liver function is up the wazoo (caused by the aforementioned drugs!) so I’m feeling a little less than better!

First, and I am as late as I can be to this party, I have upgraded to an iPhone ….

image

I guessed you wouldn’t enjoy a picture of a phone you guys have probably had for the last decade so here is my Harley Quinn cover!

So, I took said phone and took these pictures, first of another daily essential – scented candles….

image

This candle is from a brilliant mens shop, Eustace and Arthur in the lovely Somerset town of Langport which is handily where my husbands family live! every time he visits he brings me another “town”, this candle named after the village Curry Rivel (yes really), smells delightful and has an unmistakeable note of curry about it! Inexplicably they don’t have these on the website but they do have brilliant gifts for men, head over to http://www.eustaceandarthur.co.uk and take a peek.

Next up, another product that I should have brought a long time ago …

image

This gel top coat by Nail Apothecary is phenomenal! it extends wear on my flakey, chippy nails past the  one day that I usually manage. It was a snip at less than a fiver, I got mine at http://www.asos.com.

There comes a time in your life when you need more than a good moisturiser before you put make up on, step forward primer…..

image

This is the cutely named Spackle ( the American word for Polyfilla) by Laura Geller, she has a different version for every concern- redness, hydration, sun protection and this one which is slightly tinted for the vampirish like me, it smooths evens and provides a great base for foundation. This tinted version would be all you need for a weekend face. Available from lots of online beauty retailers.

Finally, the pot of Dianthus that I used for these pictures……..

image

If you are not familiar with this plant please pop along to a garden centre, apart from their gorgeous and prolific flowers, their perfume is insane- floral and with a heady note of clove. This tiny pot scents my whole patio.

I hope to finally be well enough to head to the sewing machine next week, so expect a sewing themed post next week including the pattern company that will be making me bankrupt!

Have a great week

Kisses

PS After my darling hubby bought me a table easel, I was finally able to finish this portrait of my dear departed Millie, not bad for my first foray into oils for yonks. Don’t worry, she really did look as fed up as this most days!

The Colour Of The Year Award Goes To….

Morning Kitty Cats! I always used to wonder how certain colours would dominate the high streets for a few months, only to be replaced by completely different ones (about half of an hour after you have replaced your wardrobe with the previous ones). Part of the process is the company Pantone, used by everyone from interior designers to car manufacturers, they publish a palette of colours each season and choose a colour of the year, this is 2016’s….

PANTONE-Color-of-the-Year-2016-v1-3840x2160

Thats right, the crazy fools have given us two! I love both but the rose quartz is my favourite as its my favourite crystal, it releases harmful emotions, it calms and improves self image – whats not to love? so I have gathered some of my favourite rose quartz pieces for your delight ( and don’t worry the bluebells are from my garden). First, my new favourite trainers…..

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

These are from ASOS and are super comfortable, whilst bringing a much needed touch of feminity. They are a total snip at £28,find yours at http://www.asos.com.

Now for an actual piece of rose quartz loveliness….

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

This gorgeous bracelet was made by the super talented Deb at Debonair Creations, find more gorgeousness at http://www.facebook.com/DebonairCreationsCoventry.

Now for the inevitable handbag, you must have one to match the shoes, am I right?

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

This is a geniune, 24 carat bargain! Ted Baker from about three seasons ago for £20!! oh Ebay how much do I love you? let me count the ways.

Finally, all this rosey goodness needs new eyeshadow, or is that just me? I finally relented and succumbed to the perfection that is Urban Decays Naked range, I had a Naked basics palette for the winter and have worn it everyday, it is the only eyeshadow that does not aggravate my tearless eyes. The onset of summer made this Naked Three palette, which is all rose toned a no brainer…….

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

It really is as lovely as it looks, yours from all good beauty stores for £38.

I’m sorry I didn’t manage to find any Serenity products to show you but I’m working on it, I haven’t worn blue since my ill fated Benefits Agency uniform….its time to forgive and forget and move on!

Have a great week

Kisses

Hair For Every Princess!

Morning all! I have been a busy bee this week helping out the most wonderful charity,Cancer Hair Care provides a range of uplifting services for adults and children undergoing cancer treatment. The charity was started by a hairdresser- Jasmin Julia Gupta who felt that the trauma of hair loss was something that she could help with. Her charity provides wigs, customised hats for children and teenagers, image counselling, even school uniform designs. Their latest project is customising the soft caps the children wear with yarn wigs…..

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

I thought that a soft band would be a good idea as I  didn’t want to use any fastenings that would irritate. So, if you are having a band you might as well have a crown, am I right?

The yarn choice was going to be so important, I thought cotton would be best, hospitals are so hot usually and side effects can make you hotter still, so this machine washable cotton in …ahem…chilly colours looked perfect….

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)I made a band with two rows of double crochet, a row of trebles and finished with another row of double crochet, the tiara effect was achieved with three repeats of the aptly named crown picot stitch…..

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

You will see a lot of freezer bags as we go on as I have to keep the work as clean as possible to protect the vulnerable wearers.

Now I needed a lot of hair, so I cut a lot of lengths, that once attached would make two princess plaits……

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

Once the hair was attached and plaited, it looked like this (with a clean pillowcase for protection)……….

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

I will be posting it off this week, I’m hoping that I can include some Frozen bobbles but will check with the charity first and then I will turn my attention to the second hat and see what other royal hair do’s I can think of!

It could have been quite a sad project to work on but it really has given me a lift, the thought that this might make a poorly poppet smile has really helped me get my own health problems in perspective. It also has helped me live up to my promise of carrying a bit of goodness in my heart.

If you have any tips or ideas for this project please get in touch or if you fancy having a go yourself pop over to their website http://www.cancerhaircare.co.uk

Kisses
