It’s A Small World!

Bonjour my darlings, are you on Pinterest? I absolutely love to see what the world is up to craft wise and my latest obsession are these mini worlds in a teacup, look……….

This set the old creative clogs whirring and with Mothers Day in the UK fast approaching, I thought I would have a crack at this idea with a twist that it had to be pincushion for my sewing goddess of a mum. I also documented the process so that if you feel the urge you can make one too!

So, you are going to need…….

a teacup or sugar bowl, some green felt and some embroidery thread.

First, I cut a circle of felt much bigger than my bowl, I used a side plate………

I ran a gathering stitch round the edge to make it into a puff shape, I pulled it until it sat nicely in my sugar bowl.

Then I embroidered a garden path and  a pond……….

The path I did in satin stitch, the flowers are french knots and the pond was chain stitch to try and make the surface look like it was moving.

Next you need to stuff your garden………

Play around with the stuffing so that it curves nicely out of your cup like a little hill.

At this point I got a little ahead of myself and decided to needle felt a little toadstool house, me and needle felting don’t exactly get along so I suggest if you want to do this have a look at YouTube or online tutorial, if you are still feeling brave you are going to need these supplies…..

So off I went……..

I made a little top, and then …my needle broke! I zoomed off to the craft store and bought completely the wrong tool, so the base of my toadstool involved much snipping and reshaping with scissors, more of this later!

Now for the assembly, paint some PVA glue inside your cup and sit your garden inside, glue your toadstool onto the garden (mine was not felted enough to glue successfully so its pinned!)

Et voila!..

I ordered some flower headed pins from Ebay and “planted” them in the garden.

I am really happy with the result as this was something where the design went straight from head to hand, hope some of you give it a go and I would love to see the results!

Have a great week

This Week I’ve Mainly Been….

Hiya kitty cats! who here remembers the Fast Show? there was that character that used to emerge from his shed all scruffy and say something daft like “this week I have mainly been modelling in Milan”. Well, heres my “this week I have mainly been” …..

I have been wearing Autograph by Marks and Spencer all in one nail varnish……….

image

It has been an absolute miracle, formulated with argan oil and vitamin E, it is base coat colour and top coat all in one! perfect for straight from work glamour or when the perfect mum invites you for coffee after school run! heres a picture of my nails 3 days in…..

image

Try and ignore the Arthritic fingers, the nails are just losing a little colour on the edge, but for a dark colour I think its great!

I have also been reading this……..

I was transfixed by the television series and thought I would give it another go after failing to finish it the first time. I’m pleased to say that I’m finding it great the second time around.

I have been enjoying Hyacinths……

The smell that fills the house , their delicate blue colour and its just happy coincidence that these plus my lump of rose quartz are the Pantone colours of the year- Serenity and Rose Quartz.

On the subject of quartz, I’ve also been reading this……….

As conventional medicine is not exactly my friend at the moment, I thought this would be a harmless bit of research. Besides crystals are nice to have around the house!

I have been also deliriously happy with this foundation…….

image

This is Tarte foundation (no sniggering), not routinely available in the UK I picked this up at QVC, it is marvellous, non drying for my sahara like skin and not aggravating to its Methotrexate sensitivity. Its not cheap, the set above-foundation,concealer and dual brush cost around £30 but you use such a little amount I’m hoping its going to prove economic.

Its my avowed intention to get the sewing machine out this week so wish me luck!

Have a great week

The Terror Of The Blank Space!!

Morning!! As you know I made a plan to spend at least a couple of weeks of January trying to perfect my fur painting (awfully specific I know), if you are a keen follower of this page  you will know that last week was a bit of a ‘mare for me so work didn’t start until this week.

I grabbed my lovely large canvas and…….OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS IT IS SO BLANK!!!

blank-canvas-2I was suffering a complete crisis of confidence, I hadn’t really picked up an oil brush for about 25 years!! Time for a bit of music therapy, I started blasting Gwen Stefani’s  What Are You Waiting For  on my return trip from dropping husband at the station, the lyrics are just perfect, dealing with Gwen’s own crisis of confidence on setting out one her own. So with “take a chance ‘cos you might grow” ringing in my ears, I sketched the Millie cat………….

image

So far so good, with arthritis making its presence felt that was that for day one. I then picked up this marvellous book, and…I could not believe how hard it was!

image

By the second day I had something approaching fur……..

image

I started to relax a bit and made a bit more progress……

image

I then tackled the eyes……….

image

It was at this point that i could see that oil is a very different medium and that it produces a very realistic look. The picture is still a long way from finished but I’m loving it, and I hope that this will be an option I can offer clients in the future.

Have a great week.

Couple that with my dad being in the hospital and you have the perfect storm of stress. This has meant that I have no well thought out, lovely pictured, blog post for you. I apologise, I will get my butt in gear, and service will be restored next week. in the meantime here’s some photos you may not have seen……
