Faux fur, Faux leather And A Genuine Hot Dog

Hello loves! well, the darling husband has a birthday this weekend so we took ourselves off to London so that he could visit his favourite comic shop which is handily in Berwick street, home to all the best fabric shops!it was a perfect opportunity to buy some fabric for a Mollie Makes project (more later).

As we were strolling down I spyed this……

Yes a wildly gyrating Queenie, i’d love to know what she thought!

Into the fantastic Berwick Street cloth shop, I think the windows give you an idea of what is to be found in this stuffed to the brim gem of a shop……

I found these two to make this project……

The good news is I have enough fabric to make a couple, so they will eventually be in the Etsy shop and the icing on the cake was meeting a lovely man called Vasilis who teaches at the London College of Art! He showed me some gorgeous gowns his students had made, he will be emailing these too me but is leaving soon for India- when I have them I will give you a bonus post!

A quick pop in the art shop and then to Gosh comics for the birthday boy, something awful happened inside dear reader, I bought stuff!…………

I am obsessed with Harley Quin and the Suicide Squad characters and will be pimping my car out in her colours. I have no reasonable explanation for the manga book..

By this time we were famished and as my husband and by default daughter are partially german we went to Herman Ze German, that is not an awful stereotypical faux pas on my part, its called that! these hot dogs are the real Mccoy imported from the black forest. I have no idea why, but I took no photos of the food, instead here’s the lovely interior…

I had a veggie wurst and sauerkraut which is a superfood according to the Hemsley sisters, not sure how they would feel about the cheesy chips..

Finally, a tired walk down to chinatown, we popped into M and M world but I can’t show you what I bought as its a birthday present for my little bro’.

we popped to our favourite supermarket, for the essentials……………

And a peek at the brand new gate, how gorgeous is this……

Ghost Of Outfits Past?

Hello my gorgeous people! today I have a tale of woe to tell you that has a hopeful ending! Our story starts this last Christmas with our heroine trying to buy an outfit that she could see in her head… it was a simple black top with a perfect pale pink satin skirt. The skirt had to be full but with no gathers over the hips, and with a nice deep, firm waistband, that would hold you in a tiny bit, also the skirt had to be the most perfect shade of pink…

image

It wasn’t quite ballet shoe, it was more blue a bit like this……

Satin

But not quite

But it was almost exactly this pink….

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

The beautiful Pink Rain by Illmasqua. it was irrelevant because she couldn’t  find a skirt in this colour, and worse still all the satin skirts were reeeaalllyy pleated, not a great idea if you have hips!

So, our heroine decided to take things in her own hands, she drew the outfit…..

image

And sewed it herself! oh wait a minute, she doesn’t really know how to sew…..but dear reader she is planning to learn, she has a brand new sewing machine (she lost the power cable for a month but hey ho) she has a mum who is PHENOMENAL at sewing and soon she starts sewing class! of course now our heroine is planning a whole range of clothes and Victoria Beckham style success…….but really she would be so happy if she could just have the perfect pink satin skirt.

Its Monday Month!!

I am currently reading The Beautiful and the Damned by F Scott Fitzgerald, its beautifully written of course but this quote takes the biscuit “January, its the monday of the months”! Doesn’t that just sum up the cold, boring, nothing to look forwards to that is January? So, my darlings how ever shall we cope? here are the things that are softening the blow for me

I am a huge believer in the power of mindfulness, but it can be tricky to do especially if you have the attention span of a gnat (like me) or your minds doing a mile a minute (thats when you need it  most) so here is a fabulous app called Pause…..

list-2

You literally move a coloured bubble round the screen, first with your eyes open and then with them shut. After a while you realise that you are in a deep relaxed state without really trying! available in the Apple app store and on Google.

January saw me starting on a drug called Methotrexate, its chemotherapy but I take it for my inflammatory arthritis, as you can imagine it causes nausea, sore mouth etc. So my next can’t live without is smoothies…….

I usually have a chocolate mint one from the Deliciously Ella book, but my new favourite is a peanut butter and “jam” one that appeared in Red magazine this month, the jam is in fact a handful of raspberries or strawberries, add a half avocado, almond milk and peanut butter, sweeten with coconut syrup. i didn’t have any coconut syrup so sweetened it with date syrup, it is yummy!

It is bitterly cold at the moment so my normally dry lips have taken on desert like qualities! I have been relying on this lippie……..

Its by diego della palma and is amazingly moisturising and available at Marks and Spencer.

The weather has also meant a change in body lotion, at the moment I can only use the body butter made by Amanda Pirret, find her at http://www.facebook.com/dolly-mixtures and this beauty bought for me by my daughter for Christmas……

The Alien by Thierry Mugler  fragrance isn’t for everybody but I love it, cover yourself head to toe and you won’t need fragrance, certainly not cheap at approx £24 but I think totally worth it, available at all major department stores and online beauty retailers.

Finally, I did manage to open my Etsy store this week but currently there is nothing in it! as soon as there is i’ll let you know!

Kisses

Focus And Fun!

Hi kitty cats, so here we are in 2016! I have spent the last two weeks eating my body weight in chocolate and also planning a slightly new direction for While Darcey Sleeps. You will know that the last few weeks have been tricky health wise and its clear that lots of sewing will not be possible for me 😦 but I will be expanding my artwork to include prints and cards, and I will be opening a shop online! this also means that I will be able to so some crafting for me! Yay! so come have a look whats on my project list.

First, I got out my Louisa Harding Alice in Wonderland book and decided to make this hat………

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

The yarn needed has been discontinued, so I went on http://www.yarnsub.com and found this yarn which I bought from http://www.rikes-wollmaus.de as it is so much cheaper than in the UK!

A super hat requires some gorgeous gloves and this months Mollie Makes has a cracker of a pattern……….

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

I changed the colour (I’m trying to be less pink obsessed!) and I’m so pleased with how easy the pattern is, knitted straight with minimal colour changes I should have these done before summer!

Finally, as i had no time for making christmas decorations for me last year, I’m getting ahead of the game and making this super cute tree topper from Mollie Makes…..

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

That little lot will keep me busy for a bit! I hope next week I will be able to share with you my new business card design and an online shop! the only fly in the ointment may be me starting some heavy duty medication tomorrow, but I will be here even if its just a picture of me looking nauseous!

kisses

Resolve Those Resolutions!

I want to get a tattoo, just a small one, I want it to say Invictus which is a Latin word meaning unbroken, unsubdued and invincible.  I want that word because I am unbroken, I’ve survived all sorts of illness, and trials and tribulations and I have emerged if not with a smile on my face at least with some nice lipstick……..image

So what does that have to do with resolutions I hear you ask? it has everything to do  with it! I’m sure that like me you have made resolutions in the past and by February ( or January 5th if you are me!) they are a thing of the past because they are too difficult or you don’t have time….

image

But here’s the thing: you are dropping that little resolution at the same time as working, looking after children, elderly relatives, housework and in some cases dealing with your own ill health! You organised Christmas and will be doing birthdays, holidays, play dates, MOTs and everything else that happens in your house. You are already INVICTUS!!!! You are INVINCIBLE!!! That little resolution is nothing compared to what you already achieve!!!

At this point there are a million and one motivational quotes I could give you that would illustrate this point but I want to give you something real, said by a real woman, here’s the Great British Bake Offs winner, Nadia to say it better than anyone………

image

So lets say it together, say it loud! I can and I will!

Here’s to 2016, let it be the best year yet!

Kisses
