Whoopsie!

As my brother once said to me in a slightly inebriated email, I fear, dear reader you find me quite undone! Or to put it more honestly I haven’t prepared a blog post! Have I got any excuses? Well, I’ve been working…….

imageimage

And I have been stitching, these bathing Belles are nearing completion ready for the vintage fair, ….

image

Ive stitched a few bears…….

image

I’ve done a lot of running round after this fella…..imageAnd I went to a speeding diversionary course, it really was useful and focused the mind on what the truly awful consequences of going too fast are, so expect better driving from me.

Finally, the evil step sisters that are arthritis and fibromyalgia have had me in a strangle hold, but you know what? I have made and painted and played and learnt, so they haven’t won!

Normal service will be resumed next week, thanks for sticking with me!

Art , Beauty, And A Spangly Mini!

The family Lorenz took itself of to London this with a simple mission of buying ourselves something pretty! We also wanted to give Carys a pre-results stress buster. Here is what I bought.

First, I into Selfridges for some Charlotte Tilbury eye crayons…….

image

I needed a new Bronzed Garnet, I didn’t need an Amethyst Aphrodisiac but couldn’t resist it’s green eye enhancing powers!

Across the road to Marks and Spencer as they stock the marvellous new perfume range – Shay and Blue, I have had a tester of their salt caramel scent and really wanted more…..

image

Just £30 for 30 ml and there are a range of lovely single note scents to choose from.

What followed was a hike to Hermann Ze German for a genuine German hot dog, it was well worth the walk to Soho, but I completely forgot to snap it!

Refreshed and rested, we dropped in to Cass Art for supplies, again I had things I needed, like paper and paint but these watercolour markers fell in to my bag as well…..

image

I then succumbed to a bag for life from there that featured a particular colour and on the flip side detailed paintings that feature this colour…….

image

After we allowed my husband some time in the comic shop, we finished off in Beyond Retro, as always stuffed to the brim with vintage clothes, I bought this……….

image

Don’t panic I shall not be wearing this sequinned miin! But I will hopefully be turning it into a bag, if I get my act together it will be a tutorial.

Finally, I have the best of news that I wanted to shout from the rooftops but was banned from doing so- my dear daughter got 9 As and 2Bs in her GCSEs!!! This kid has spent e last few months tied to her desk so I am so happy she has been rewarded.

I have to run to an MRI now so…

Do I Love Gardening? Meh……

I hate gardening! There, I said it! I find it time consuming, manicure ruining and generally a drag, I could only get enthusiastic for my fairy garden…….

image

But I have been gradually persuaded into doing more gardening by my husband. As I have done more, I have realised that although I love flowers, the most satisfying gardening comes from growing veggies. So, here are my (almost) no fail selection of fruit and veg you can grow in even the smallest patch.

First up, apples……

image

Our trees are at least 50 years old and enormous but if space is at a premium you can grow some dwarf varieties in a large pot. This year looks like a bumper crop so we have endless apple pies and what is known in our house as apple mush to look forward to.

Next, how about sugar snap peas or mange tout, these were grown from seed and they were just repotted once before going outside…….

image

These have been amazing for stir frys and just grazing round the garden!

Then onto the old faithful-tomatoes, the seeds for these came free with a gardening magazine! They are easy to grow and almost fool proof, as long as you don’t get blight which just appears and is the equivalent of the Black Death for your toms…..

image

Next, another favourite – strawberries, these are a small alpine variety and I think I like the flowers as much as the fruit…..

imageimage

On a hot day they make that part of the garden smell like jam!

How about something a little spicier! Chillies are so easy and can be grown on a window sill……

image

These have a great flavour, milder than shop bought but with great warmth.

Finally leeks, we have grown about 20 in a very small raised bed, but they are coming to the end so this picture looks like a leek graveyard….

image

Finally, a word of warning, buying seeds can be addictive, my husband succumbed to this….image

This is a cucumelon! It is as it says on the tin, a hybrid of the cucumber and a melon, don’t let the picture fool you, that fruit is exactly 2cms long!

Let me know what you are growing or whether you are anti gardening like me!

#Blessed

Do your Facebook and Instagram feeds contain a lot of images captioned with #Blessed? Mine does and it made me think what I have that would merit that description, this is what I came up with.

This Saturday most of my family are gathering to celebrate my Mums birthday and the arrival of our new puppy. I love my family so much, it is full of talented and loving adults and six of the brightest, funniest children you could wish for. Here we are on a family holiday ……….

image

So far, so #blessed right? Not completely, all the adults have had health scares and the majority live with serious chronic illness, some of us have faced life threatening illness. Throughout our trial and tribulations we have always had the unconditional support of the red head in the centre of the group – or mum!

My mum has dealt with her husbands illness for the best part of 40 years, her own illness, and for the last two years a condition that can only be managed by aggressive steroid therapy. I could tell you how brave she is, how generous, but let’s just celebrate what makes her great.

My mum loves make up as much as me, one of my earliest memories is of her alpplying her cake mascara, for the youngsters amongst us this what it looks like……..

image

In in fact she loves her make up so much, she has made us promise that is she is ever in a coma, we will come and put her make up on and dye her hair which brings us to its colour…..

image

Her hair is Titian red naturally, now it receives a little chemical assistance 😉

She is also multi talented, she makes coffee cake that would make an angel cry…..

image

And knits, sews and quilts, here are the quilts she made my dogs, yes you heard me correctly, dogs…

image

She is the queen of malapropism, for example “the cheese straws have a touch of canine pepper in them”!

So thats just a few of the things that make my mum great, and in the most public way possible,I wanted to say….

Happy Birthday Mummy!!!!!

I’m In The Nude!

Don’t panic dear reader I’m fully clothed! I’m talking about the current Trent for nude makeup and nails! If you are as old as me you will remember the nude makeup of the 90s, the endless taupes and beiges, modelled here by the gorgeous Drew Barrymore….

image

but this time around it’s different, textures are lighter and there’s the occasional bit of grown up shimmer, so let’s dive in and have a look at my favourites.

First up, Loreal Colour Riche La Pallette Nude in Rose ( good job it’s easier to use than say!)…

.image

lovely soft beiges, with a pink undertone and a butter soft texture, you can conjure up all sorts of looks.

Next to lips, the pick of the bunch for me is this Kate Moss for Rimmel, this is a capsule collection of nudes for lips and nails, tailored to your skin tone, this is my shade 43…

image

And here is my nail polish that comes form the same collection…..

image

I love this nude look but do find the need for more colour every few days! So how does this look grab you? Is it chic and effortless or plain and boring?
